Joaquín E. Jácome Diez is the founder and senior partner of JACOME & JACOME. For over thirty years, Joaquin has led the firm to continued growth while serving as a trusted legal advisor to clients across a wide range of areas of expertise. He specializes in Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Foreign Direct Investment.

Prior to founding the firm, Joaquin represented the Republic of Panama as Charge D’Affaires in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Lithuania. Before his appointment as Minister of Commerce and Industries (1999-2004), Joaquin served as Chief Legal Advisor to Econogrupo, a leading Panamanian financial institution.

As Minister, Joaquin led the Panamanian Government teams in the negotiations that concluded with a Free Trade Agreement between Panama and the United States of America. Joaquin was also in charge of trade negotiations with Colombia and the Dominican Republic, as well as those leading to the Central – America – Panama Free Trade Agreement, and Panama’s Free Trade Agreement with Taiwan and Singapore. Further, Joaquin was responsible for high-level negotiations in the agriculture, energy, investment, maritime, and tourism sectors, in addition to international arbitration and other methods of dispute resolution.

Following his public service, Joaquin was selected for the Class of 2005 of the prestigious Yale World Fellows program at Yale University.

Joaquin obtained an LL.B. from the University of Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, and an LL.M. in International Law from the University of Stockholm, Sweden.

Joaquin is a regular contributor to the Latin American Advisor, a daily newsletter published by The Inter-American Dialogue in Washington, D.C.

Currently, Joaquin serves as an ambassador of the Yale International Alliance.
